Kyle brushes his hair behind his ear. Stared at her.
"Stop it! I mean it!"
He walked over to her slow. Soon they were kissing. After it was finished they lay there. He thought he could use a
cigarette
. Damn he would want one if it weren't for how good his
ego
felt right now.
"How often do you think about her?"
He turned his head slightly so that he wasn't facing her directly. Instead looking at her from the side.
"Everyday. Not all day though."
A moment later when she didn't respond he said, "not the answer you were looking for?"
She sighed. "You know my stance. I don't know why you stay with her. Neither of you actually like each other. I mean how can you stand living with her?"
Now he really could use that damn cigarette.
"Mm. I don't know. But I can't imagine living in any other way being better."
"Wouldn't you want to live with me?"
He had to restrain himself. But it was too late. She saw it.
"Why are you laughing?"
She got up, began getting dressed.
Kyle thought of saying some things. Trying to get her to stay. But then he broke out into laughter.
"It's not fucking funny!"
Indeed, he thought. Perhaps it wasn't funny. But he couldn't stop laughing. After she left he went up to the window and watched the
Chevy
drive off. He stood there naked. Finally with a cigarette in his mouth.
