The weekend came and Jimmy threw one of the biggest parties Dick had been to. Jimmy didn't even live in town. He would make friends with anybody who would visit Dick during the week and tell them they should come over to chill this weekend.
Come Saturday people came peeking in. There was no formal beginning to the party. First Rhonda showed up. And they all smoked Camel
cigarettes
while drinking beer. Then Jake showed up with a 30 pack just as they were about to run out of beer. Then Jake's friend Mike and his girlfriend Liz did.
Another hour later and the house was packed. Funny, even when Dick tried to throw a party he couldn't get accomplish anything bigger than eight people sitting around a table drinking. Jimmy stays here one week and throws a banger.
The following day Jimmy was sleeping in. Dick went for a coffee at the cafe five blocks away. Hangover coffee was nice. Not the hangover. But that warm consoling feeling from the coffee in the midst of the heavy, anxiety that is a hangover. Scrunched up by a window, he took long frequent sips until his cup was empty. Then he paid for a refill and took it with him.
At the house Jimmy barely registered Dick's entrance.
