In a perfect world Doug would've gotten bored. Reflected on things. Maybe while looking out the window and enjoying that first cup of coffee watching the birds. Suddenly he would've remembered how his old coworker always talked about them damn birds. This would've made him miss the poor schmuck. He would've then called Charlie. And either he would've gotten him while he was alive... or gotten his mom between the time he died and now.
How much better would have Mrs. Laskin felt had a call from a friend came in. Who knew how many calls and texts Charlie got after he jumped out his window? Maybe none. Possibly. He was that kind of guy. To disappear for two days and have nobody on earth asking for him. Except for maybe his

Had he called Charlie... even if Charlie was dead, Mrs. Laskin would've felt better that someone out there was asking for him. The bad news would be more deliverable. A true regret to inform. Rather than this reaching out to people on his contact list.
Doug resented Charlie. Always thought he was a chode. But now that the chode was dead he felt bad. He honestly felt for his mom. If he could do anything to make this time easier he would. But there was nothing. Her son was dead. Nobody had called his phone for the past few days. She realized how lonely of a life Charlie lived.
See back at work Charlie only hung out at official work meetings. Doug got invited to the cool private events. Not that they were exclusive in some illuminati or rich people manner. But it was a smaller group of semi young people who liked to hang out together. Doug didn't like them that much, but it was better than being alone in this city. Charlie on the other hand was always alone. Probably just looking at

or wanking himself off between meals of frozen pizza and frozen fake meats.
Poor Charlie. Why couldn't he man up just a little bit. Why did he have to jump out a window. Why didn't he leave his mom a note.
After thinking this through Doug took a deep breath and answered the phone.
