There's a scene in Breaking Bad, where Jesse Pinkman realizes potential that he had been blind to. It's after he gets a phone call from his friend about a new drug opportunity. Jesse takes this call while he's at his parents' after he fled there after a nervous breakdown induced by meth. Excited about this opportunity Jesse goes to Walter.
He shows up and Walter is pisses to see him The two had just suffered a horrible inaugural cookout and had mutually vowed to part ways for good.
Instead of the usual Jesse voice of YEAH BITCHi he speaks softly and in tentative terms. I was thinking, maybe. you know...
Walter rejects the idea immediately. He hasn't changed his mind on the decision to have nothing to do with Jesse ever again.
The beauty of this scene is not Jesse realizing the potential of selling more drugs. To me it's not a motivational story about someone realizing they can take their shot at some venture. What Jesse realized actually is the potential of a relationship with Walter. Being nearly estranged from his family and only having friends who use him for his house and drugs, what Jesse wants most is a real relationship.
The rest of the show would've gone completely differently had the two been more empathetic. Enough to see that even against societal norms, the two really ought to be close friends.
