The mark didn't appear in either of those Escalades that night.

"Fuck, Fam!" BAKA kissed his teeth.

Dave was a bit relieved. He didn't actually want to get into another confrontation that night. Not that the first thing could be considered a confrontation. They had simply ran up on the man from behind and killed him. No fight. No confrontation. Just cold blooded murder.

The escalades turned out to only contain bodyguards and a cousin of the mark. They shook hands with some of the security out in front of the club before going inside.

"Well. It's all about patience, fam. That's the main ting." BAKA said.

"Right. Better to wait for the right time."

"That's what I just said innit?"

"What?"

"You trying to act dumb, blud?"

"No. I'm. Sorry. Just making sure we're on the same page."

BAKA looked Dave straight in the eye. Blinked. The aggression faded.

"No problem, fam."

BAKA returned his hands to the steering wheel. They had been ready to go just before. One on the waist band by the pistol, the other by the car door ready to open.

They drove back to a parking lot outside of town. Dave had met BAKA there. The two driving independently.

"I'll see you tomorrow, fam. Bright and early."

Dave drove back to his hotel. The Double Tree hotel. It was near Pearson airport.

The front desk was rude and unfriendly. The room was not too bad. He watched 90s films set in New York at night to help fall asleep. Anything to distract him from his current life helped. He didn't want to think about this job. BAKA. Or even his family who he hadn't seen in months.

The films calmed him. Nostalgia subdued anxieties. He thought about getting something to drink, but decided the film was enough. He leaned back further. Felt the eyelids starting to weigh heavier.
