rip blayne

as reply to The Front Door

The visitor didn't come in full view of the breakroom monitor. Just from the boots Jade could make out who it was. He had been coming here a little too often. Blayne and the man had been friends in the past no doubt about that. But there had been some riff a long time ago. Not a riff that made them hate each other, but made it impossible to be friends in a good way. The only thing the two of them could do was get into trouble. And trouble was where they were now.

That must be why the kid ran away, she wrote down. Jade alternated from looking down at her notebook, writing, and staring up at the monitor. The entire time the full figure never came into view. Only the boots and some of the jeans could be seen.

Later on when the detectives asked what happened, Jade would describe the boots. But she would never say 'it was him. I know who it was.' She would be putting herself into trouble, and that's not how the justice system worked. 'just trust me. I know that was him.' didn't work.

By this time Blayne had been dead for less than an hour. by the time the cops had arrived. By the time Jade had drunk two more espressos, made a few more for the officers. By the time Danny Calruso was long gone.
