They sat there longer than planned. Well there was no plan. Longer than expected was more accurate.
Baka told him about his life. Stories about his mom. Marc just listened. The stories and feelings kept coming out of Baka's mouth.
The waitress kept coming by and giving them refills on the coffee cups. When they had finished their milkshakes the waitress had come by and asked if they wanted a second milkshake. It had been a joke but Baka looked at Marc, who shrugged back at him.
"How about this time, kid, you get strawberry and i'll get chocolate."
"Deal," Marc said with a grin.
The waitress became excited by the concept of two grown men drinking two milkshakes each. that was a thing high schoolers did when they came here in groups, bored, after first getting their drivers license.
After the second milkshake the waitress thought of cracking a joke about a third milkshake but refrained, fearing that they might take her up on that offer. The two were smiling too much. They felt like two best friends meeting after decades apart, picking up life back where they had left it.
So instead she asked if they wanted coffee.
"Baka doesn't usually drink coffee. How about you kid?"
"I used to a lot."
"We'll have some then!"
