as reply to On the Gravel

"I like that sound"

Marc made a face. "The gravel?"

"Is that what htey call it innit? Thought they were called stones."

They both laughed.

They sat there listening to the sound of car doors shutting. Some murmurs of an old man and a younger woman. Then the door squeaked open.

"Boys, we're home!" Denver's gravely voice rang.

They carried in four paper grocery bags. BAKA felt like a child. He never had both his parents at home growing up. so this is what he imagined growing up in a 'happy' household felt like. Parents coming back with groceries to make breakfast. A brother who teaches you to make the perfect eggs.

How long could they stretch this out for? They had to eventually leave for the job. Marc was hugging Denver. BAKA didn't know why. It had already been over a day since they got here. Weren't you only supposed to hug when you said hi and bye? Didn't make sense. Man just came back from the store is all, innit?

HE thought this to himself. Watching the three speaking in a sort of blur. Their voices were loud but the words were unclear. BAKA thought maybe they didn't need to go on the job. Only one of them could go. Why would the two of them be needed. Perhaps this was the gift he could provide the Cambridge Kid. Sacrifice himself so that Marc could stay here in this paradise.
