Johnny had been on a nihilistic bent ever since McKayla died, which had been that day. It was fast. But Max thought his friend was getting over it quite fast. At least in his own way. The two of them were kicking back tallboys while sitting on the couch. Johnny had been telling him stories of where McKayla would like to hang out, what kind of books she'd read.
"I can't believe she's dead man."
"I know. I'm sorry--"
"No man. Don't apologize. It's not your fault."
Johnny looked down. Wet his lips a bit. They were chapped. He took another swig from his tallboy. by the way he brought it to his mouth Max could tell it was almost empty. Any other day he'd go and grab the next
tallboy
from the fridge, but on this day he figured he not enable more drinking.
"Like she had this thing. She saw things." He pointed over to the peep hole. He got up. Started walking. Max had though to the door where the
peep hole
was, but instead he took a turn to the kitchen and grabbed another
beer
and came back. "She was looking through there. Wouldn't tell me what she'd seen. But she said she couldn't leave the apartment. And that's how she ended up staying here. I think she might've... do you think?"
"What? What, man?"
"Do you think she saw how she died or something? Like Final Destination or some shit?"
Too many strange things happening at once. Max couldn't wrap his head around all of them. He should call the police he thought. They had given him a number but they had provided no instructions on what to do. When Max had asked "do you want me number?" they shook their head, said no, and just walked away.
"Anyways, Max. Don't blame yourself. I think what happened. It was meant to be. Oh and yeah. Feel freee to stay here while this blows over. No worries. I kind of got used to living with another person. Would be nice not to be alone."
Max grabbed his can. It was empty as well now too. He thought about grabbing another. He really wasn't craving more beer, but he couldn't think of anything better to do. so he got up and went to the fridge. On his way the peep hole caught his eye.
