In the store he got bread and cheese. The cashier didn't look at him more than she needed to. She wasn't part of the network. They hadn't gotten to the folks out here yet. but soon they would. He would try to savor these few days of freedom before everybody was out to get him.

He was at a Family Dollar. The store was in disarray. Dirty floors, flickering light bulbs. He kind of liked it. The cashier looked like she was struggling with some kind of drug addiction. Her forearms vibrated as she bagged his bread and cheese. George lifted his arm "no bag needed."

She smiled and took it out, her arms vibrating.

Outside he put on his sunglasses. There had been some in the family dollar. He had thought about getting one of the mirror coated colored ones. But he didn't think that he could trust the family dollar shades. Apparently there were instances of low quality sunglasses that would dilate your pupils but not actually block the UV, which was harmful to the eyes. If he was at a less run down feeling store then he'd feel safer buying a new pair. But for now he had to stick with the dark gray ray bans.

He peered out west. He was going to drive west. Until they caught up to him or he reached the ocean.
