Documenting

Lately I find myself telling other people to write. I wonder if I am the only one.

There are a few people in my life with whom the conversations are usually fascinating. The topics are things I like to write about here. But when doing it with someone that has thought about the topics, the back and forth usually leads towards interesting ideas.

I have started to wonder about the many such conversations I have had with people that I may have forgotten. And seeing how interesting it is to document thoughts and events, I feel the urge to document what I can and encourage others to do the same.

Just this last weekend, I talked to my friend that moved back to Ethiopia. We talked for hours about many different topics. She has had different experiences and insights about things like corruptions, power, leadership and change. Her perspective from her experience are detailed and informative. I immediately found myself asking her to write a blog about it.

When I meet someone over 50 who has lived an interesting life, within minutes I ask them if they have thought about writing about their life. I am certain many people are fed up of hearing me ask them to write about their life.

I strongly feel that there isn't adequate documentation by people from Ethiopia sharing what they have experienced. I think more of us need to write more. More of us need to create movies, documentaries and music. There is a strong correlation between the cultures that document themselves and how much they control the narrative about themselves.
You make a good point about documentation from a cultural perspective.

I see how people want to express themselves and often they doit with so much vehemence in front of not quite the right audience. I tell people to write too, not just because they have interesting things to say but also because the things they say aren't too interesting and could use a bit more elaboration.

Lmao at this. I think the same way. I also think that people should write for two reasons. One I'll write as a separate post, but one is touched on by you here

.

For a lot of people I don't think they develop their experience/ideas/thoughts enough for them to be able to share it with others through a comprehensible articulation.

There are many ways to reflect but I think writing allows for a path of reflection that is the most advancing/empowering... as in
Writing
allows people to have the biggest/deepest/most-personal thoughts that I think would be impossible without the medium of placing ideas/thoughts/feelings into words.

Just like in programming, the modern technologies is only made possible due to abstracting away complexity. I think writing is the best way of abstracting away vaguery and trope-ness... to get to the real you.

I am of the opinion that the 'real' me or you or 'the real' anyone does not exist. It is a sense-perception of embodied awareness that emerges and gets defined in our interactions with others.

I should rephrase myself because I'm in agreement with you. There is no real us... but there are us' that are aligned with our long-term desires of who we should be becoming. That's what I meant by 'real us'.

it really necessary for one to have an idea of who (or what) he should be becoming or just let himself be defined by his long-term desires? I mean, desires push to action and becoming a free agent animated by its own desires enables a certain type of character.

Could you rephrase that? I'm not clear on what you're saying but am really interested.

I mean, is it necessary to have an idea of the type of character one wants to become? To wish to become like someone with qualities, someone who is admirable. Or is it better to not give any thought to that 'image' and instead fully engage with your desires, which in turn will define you with a character that is uniquely yours.

Let's chat about this sometime.

I love chatting with you on such things.

But no I think image is the most dangerous thing.
