Yesterday was a beautiful day. The weather was great. I woke up after a good nights sleep. And to top it all - I spent the day with my nephew and niece.
My brother was the first person I met in the morning. We chatted for a few minutes about a house on the market. We were interested in buying the house. We did some research to identify if the home only had one owner since it was built. This type of research helps to understand if the house had multiple owners and why it is on the market now. It seemed like there was a divorce since the 2 people listed as the original owners, changed to 1 some years back. Then we did some more research and discovered that the person who lived in the house died last year. That's why the house was on the market.
That research made reminded me of Tom Nash. A remarkable man that I discovered had passed away after I googled his name. I shared his story with my brother and the first thing my brother said was - 'did you write a post about Tom?'
Lately, I talk about an idea and when it feels like something I don't want to forget, I make sure to write about it. To share it with people that appreciate beautiful memories. My brother was telling me to share Tom's story. To make sure I don't forget about Tom. So I shared his story in a post yesterday.
In addition to the multiple benefits of writing daily that I shared before, there is one that I have started to think about more and more. Every so often, some of us share something deep and personal that allows us to be more vulnerable. Like Brandon's father's day post.
As Brene Brown says in her TED talk about vulnerability....
“Connection, the ability to feel connected, is why we're here. It's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.” ... “The thing that underpinned this feeling of shame is excruciating vulnerability,”

allows us to explore and develop ourselves. I think that it's when we are open to our vulnerability that we grow.
There's nothing wrong about sharing good things and celebrating wins... but I don't think that is what progresses us. It's something to enjoy for sure but it's not what takes us to the next step.
