What class do you belong to?

All mankind is divided into three classes: those that are immovable, those that are movable, and those that move.
Benjamin Franklin

I think anyone that reads this quote wants to believe that they belong to the 'those that move' class. But I wonder how many of us do belong there?

Thinking of my own life, I think I have gone through phases where I was all three. Right after college graduation and getting a job, I belonged to the immovable class. I was happy to have completed school and a good secure job. I saw many people at the place I worked who were there for more than 20+ years and I saw no problem with that. I didn't want to do anything that would add stress to my life. So in my mind, I was set. I even started to look at real estate in relation to the location of my first job out of college.

Then I had a horrible boss that made me realize that I could lose my job at any point.

Pro tip - In many instances in the corporate world, your job security is mostly correlated to your immediate boss. Not your tenure, not your skill, not how hard you work.

At that point, I realized that losing my job/health insurance would be the most stressful event for me. I was always going to be one bad boss away from losing that security. So I had to learn to join the movable class. I had to learn the skills so I could be my own boss.

Once I became movable and had a purpose for wanting to move, it was much easier to do so. That's when I tried to start a YouTube channel, an Amazon business, a crowdfunding campaign for a journal and then the daily writing habit.

Seeing my own path I know that being movable is a precursor to becoming a person that moves. But to continue moving, it takes having people around that motivate and hustle in similar ways. I think most people in these writing communities are either movable, people that move or both.

Hi did you mean to put all of that in a quote?

Nope!

I would file myself into the "movable" bin presently.
