I wasn't getting the quality of sleep I wanted over the last few weeks. I wasn't certain why but I decided to focus on it and get to the bottom over the last 10 days.
I tried:
- Sleeping early
- Not eating past 5pm
- No water consumption after 3pm
- Completely changing the ambience of my room
- Using a humidifier with lavender essential oils
- Lemon balm tea
- No naps during the day
- No caffeine at all
- Meditation right before bed
- Listening to deep sleep music to fall asleep
- Reducing the temperature to < 70 degree Fahrenheit
Until about 2 days ago, nothing seemed to matter. The only way I could get good sleep was by waking up late in the morning. I didn't want to keep doing that. So I mixed and tried all of these things.
Yesterday, I tried something brand new. I switched off the lights completely. I am not a fan of total darkness. I hate the dark and feel better if there is some light in the corner. Yesterday I dared myself to try. And it ended up helping me get 3 hours and 22 minutes of deep sleep. And 2 hours and 30 min of Rem sleep. I woke up early feeling refreshed. It had been a while since I felt that way.
I plan to repeat this experiment to make sure that it wasn't a fluke. Then I will put my trials under a folder called Sleep - which is under SYSTEMS in my google drive. I have been trying to get a consistent and effective sleep system for some time. I feel like the experiment may be ending soon.

Once the experiment is shown to repeatedly work, and I get the same sleep scores as Brandon, I will share exactly what worked for me.
