Doug Stamper

is one of my favorite characters. Quiet like a shadow, but a presence that's felt by those who know him.

I remember the first time I watched 

House of Cards

wondering who this quiet bald man with an intense stare was. Why was he always getting himself into these intense situations often involving random women being attracted to him and sleeping with him.

These never turn into any real relationships, because Stamper is at his core damaged. Just as he knows he can't handle 

alcohol

, he knows he couldn't handle a real relationship. So he lets himself exit, gracefully. Not really offering the women any explanation, but they understand.

A quiet, felt presence.
