A common pitfall in
storytelling
is not choosing to tell a story that leaves the character changed forever. I was sitting outside feeling summer breeze under a tree when this thought came to me:
We fear changing our characters forever because we fear it in our own lives. We want to somehow craft a story where things go right for our characters without them ever having to change. We want the world to morph around them to show them by the end that they had been right after all.
All great stories tell not just a sequence of events that happen, but rather a sequence that leaves the people in it... the setting, irreversibly changed forever.
Hmm - you got me to google the book and read what it was about. It is the #1 best seller and this line got me thinking that I need to read the book..

I sent the book to dealingwith as well so hopefully the three of us can learn a lot from it. I've already learned so much on the section -- out of seven -- and if the three of us go into it together I'm sure we'd learn even more.
I also sent the book to GabrielGreco a little while back so that'd be awesome to have him on it as well.
If only there were some cool functionality that would facilitate an asynchronous, online book club to allow you all to compare notes and have robust discussions about this book. And if only such cool functionality already had a name and rough sketch of how it would work. Even I might participate with this very book if such a thing existed....
You know my main reason on not taking action on this has been that i thought nobody would use it. but your comment made me think hey at least maybe us three would use it and that's good enough. I'll try to do something simple for this and see how ti goes :)
