packaged sound drinking smoking packaged sound music podcast audiobook Audible packaged content

Packaged sound is not something we question. As in with something like
smoking
or
drinking
it's obvious that we ought to consider "maybe I shouldn't be doing this" or at the least "maybe I ought to reduce this." But with packaged sound one might not think that. It's just sound, noise right?

So I can't say that I ever tried to reduce my consumption of
packaged sound
during this past phase of my life. But there had been a time where I wouldn't go more than one hour without something audible playing in the background. Either
music
or a
podcast
or an
audiobook

I say I wouldn't, but really it should be I couldn't have. But because listening to things constantly wasn't anything people painted as a vice I never had to try to stop it.

About a year ago I cancelled my
Audible
subscription. I noticed that I was just getting more and more audiobooks -- one each month -- and wasn't listening to them. They were all good books, just didn't feel the need to constantly be listening to packaged sound and
packaged content
all the time. There's plenty of sound and information just coming in... from this thing called life. And that was what I was beginning to see. To listen to.

I bet I have enough Audiobooks to last me until my 50s or so.
The same thing happened to me with Audible, though maybe not for the same reason. I find many audiobooks have boring narration. I'd rather listen to a podcast where the conversation is far more interesting. I have cut down on my music consumption as well, though now I'm not in so many meetings I can actually listen more while I'm working.

Audiobooks is not my thing. I'd rather listen to music but even that i can't doit more than 1-2 h per day. I'm playing a song or two, an album and then i pull the earbuds out.

I enjoy reading with a pencil in hand and underlined or take notes on the side. You can't do that with audiobooks

how are you enjoying the new calmer work-life?

Nedzen
i also find it harder to read with a pencil in hand. even if it's into a notebook because the speed is too high.

i do however like taking notes as my girlfriend reads me something or lectures me on something.

It has been quite a change and a welcome one at that.
