Back in college Danny stayed in a dorm called 

Holmes Hall

. The fifth floor. On the west side. Everybody there called it five west Holmes.

Danny never went to college. Couldn't afford it. But he'd fly out for a week at a time to visit his friend Blayne.

Blayne's family was just as poor as Danny's. But he had brains. And also not the same looks, thus the time to study and get grades. The kind of grades that got him scholarships.

People at school either ignored Blayne or made fun of him. The losers ignored him and the popular kids made fun of him. Danny was the odd one out: popular but ignored him and let him be. Well maybe that's not 'ignoring'. Blayne saw it more as some form of respect.

Danny would look him in the eye while passing each other in the hall and give a head nod. The same head nod he'd give to the captain of the football team or the richest pothead in school. The same damn nod. Even to him. Blayne.

That's probably what made Danny the Blue collar King. The Phantom. Because no matter how popular he became he never used it to make fun of other people. never abused that power.

Out of high school Danny worked crazy hours. Like 50 to 60 hours a week on average. 70 to 80 on a busy week. The extra cash from all that lawn mowing he used to fly out to the midwest where Blayne stayed. Five west holmes.
