I read recently romcoms are dead. This an article I didn’t think I needed but then I remembered all the romcoms I watched recently. Like zero. And how I always equate them to the 90s or early 2000s, or noughties in England. It is weird that during that period of time these movies were doing better than other movies. They had amazing actors and big budgets and like everyone watched them.
They always made me feel a bit too much. Like fake mixed with hope, but a sickening hope.
Maybe that’s why they’ve been replaced? Is it because people prefer action movies to them? Or super hero movies? I am not sure.
I can’t tell if my preferences are reflected in what Hollywood or Netflix thinks are good. Or is it similar to YouTube just trying to get you to watch longer, Hollywood has abandoned romcoms because not everyone likes them and they just aren’t selling.
This reminded me also of one of posts about watching low rated movies. It’s possible to find something you like better and that to you is better than a super produced Hollywood movie. Probably. But how will people find that if the current environment just pushes the most popular.
You lose a lot of interesting stuff this way. First it’s Romcoms then who knows what else?
