Aaron was doing well on paper. New York City. Chef. Self Made.
But because he texted him everyday he knew that his personal life was different.
"He's doing fine." he said. He could've said that he was doing good. But he didn't. Why?
"That's good." Imogen smiled. Did she hear him wrong? Good? Why was that good?
"Yeah. How about you?"
"Me? Well. Just the same as Aaron I suppose."
Did that mean she was doing good? Or fine?
"It's a tough time for a lot of us."
She had heard him correct then. But what did she mean by tough time?
"Yeah. I guess so." he said nodding, not sure what she meant.
"Do you have plans for after graduation?"
"Me? No. I mean I know I'll be living in . But beyond that no. Might get a job at a cafe there or something while I figure my next plans out."
smiled at him. "We could always use a pair of competent hands here."
He had never thought about living here before. When he went off to college it was without a doubt in his mind that he was done with this hometown. Imogen's statement, casual as it might've been, was the first time he considered the possibility. What would life back at be like?
Outside there was snow. His breaths floated in the air as he walked back to the car.
