was free up here. They had solar panels facing straight out into the sun. And boy did the station eat up a lot of juice. So many computers and appliances everywhere. And the whole infrastructure that allows people to survive inside of

. the mechanism that taks the water from the air and purifies it into liquid form. The utilities that dehydrated people's 

poop

and turned it into dried compact substance that could be more mangeably dealt with.

It amazed Cal that people could live up here. Down on earth he couldn't even manage to do the dishes regularly. He and his roommates would fight over that. Then they would end up drinking 

beer

and smoking 

weed

instead. Everything would feel dandy. Until the next evening when everybody would get into an argument over who's turn it was to clean. Then someone would bring out a bottle and everything would be dandy again.

It wasn't like that up here. Things were orderly. Cal found it easy to follow suit. He was beginning to see that he always went with the flow. In

, he hung out with loose people. And thus he was loose. But up here. Things were tight.
